Question:

London Tube Help Needed?

We haven't ever used the Tube before so can you give me some general advice or hints on what to do at the underground.

We have 55 minutes to get from St Pancras to Liverpool Street Station on Saturday morning around 10:30am. How much is it on Tube from St Pancras to Liverpool Street Station for 2 adults + 2 children just 1 way?

Also, can we use our family railcard for a discount on the Tube or not? If we can, how much cheaper would it be?

Finally, are we better getting our tickets from our local train station to save time or from the Tube Station when we get there? Will the Tube station be busy?

Thanks very much in advance,

Ryan

  1. First of all, 55 minutes is ample time to get from St. Pancras to Liverpool Street. You need an eastbound Circle or Metropolitan line train from Kings Cross/St Pancras tube station - it's 5 stops to  Liverpool Street. Your family railcard is not valid on Underground services however. I assume you will be arriving at St. Pancras by train and are travelling on from Liverpool Street. Have you brought your ticket? If not, try and buy a through ticket from your departure to your destination stations which is endorsed 'via Underground'. (I'm, in fact , travelling to London on Saturday via First Capital Connect which serves St. Pancras and that comes with a travel card attached) Unfortunately, if you pay cash for your Underground journey it is going to cost £4 each for the adults - if the children are under 11 they can travel free - if they are between 11 and 16 it will cost £2 each. You won't be able to buy a seperate Underground ticket from your local station, but there shouldn't be problems at Kings Cross - there are plenty of ticket machines.

  2. Ryan  have you got a diary ,if so most have an underground map inside front and back covers ..you will see its multi coloured ,these colours are the second main interest for you ..the colours you see on the map are your guide for the journies you take (somewhat like road numbers guide you) I think you need the Circle line YELLOW  but Iam not a Londoner  4stops I think If you find yourself at Euston you have to go back one stop    are you sure underground fares are not included  with the tickets you have prchased on line ....

Yes the trains will be busy on that section but not over crowded, on a Saturday morning.

Just a friendly word but during the war from age 8 I travelled country wide on my own and with my parents...Instructions I still remember If

for any reason we get seperated    DONT PANIC  get off at the next station and stand still and wait dont move around ...In those days Overground you had the choice of fast and slow trains  for safety reasons we alway travelled on slow stopping trains  ..
