London Underground vs Connex Train System Melbourne?

Which is more officiant and which is cleaner. Answer needed urgently. Easy 10 points

I think the previous answer was correct, the underground is very good and kept clean and cool. It is easy to get around, with trains every couple of minutes.

I don't know much about connex melbourne, but when connex had south eastern and south central here, they were so bad, the government banned them from having any more franchises in england. I remember being on three of their trains that caught fire and getting back home late every day because they were so delayed.

Maybe connex melbourne is the same or different. But i think the london underground is strongly better.

It's difficult to compare them, as they aren't really the same type of system. London Underground is a metro system, (serving a similar purpose to Melbourne's trams), whereas Connex Melbourne is suburban rail.

Metro systems (like the Underground, and New York's Subway) have far more station stops and far more frequent services than suburban systems, but they cover much shorter distances, and the trains themselves run at slower speeds than suburban trains.

The Underground and Connex Melbourne are both very efficient for what they are. I found the Connex Melbourne trains and stations to be a lot cleaner than the equivalents in London. To be honest I find public transport in general, in Australia, to be cleaner than the British equivalent.

A better comparison for the Connex trains would be the suburban train services that run into London, like First Capital Connect and C2C. In fact Connex, as a company, used to run some of these services in London before they were taken over by other operators.

The London Underground is a wonder of engineering in the history of transport, considering its been around 200 years plus. The Connex Train system in Melbourne is largely unknown on the world's great stage. As for cleanliness, The Underground is kept very clean, it has to be for safety purposes, the trains are very efficiently run, again they have to be for safety purposes. There is your answer.

The London underground is far superior to Melbourne's Public Transport system for a number of reasons:

- Superior frequency of trains.  In London, a maximum wait will be 5 minutes. Many areas in Melbourne have trains that run once every forty minutes (evenings, weekends).

- Connecting services. Disembark from a Melbourne train and you may find that the last bus for the evening left only 2 minutes ago. Its one of the major frustrations of daily commuters.

- Greater investment. Greater government investment has led to greater patronage in London. Many in Australia advocate the use of cars instead of public transport. Roads therefore receive the bulk of Government spending at the detriment of public transport infrastructure and services.

- Service times - Melbourne trains stop running around midnight.

- Ticketing - Melbourne PT has undergone a massive ticketing fiasco, costing taxpayers millions of dollars. Ticket inspectors have earned a reputation for being aggressive and unhelpful. Many tourists complain of not knowing how to purchase a valid ticket and then subsequently being "bullied" and fined by ticket inspectors.

- Timetables. It is astounding and laughable that Melbournes train system STILL does not use "real time" timetables and information screens. If a train is delayed or cancelled (a frequent occurance) then the timetables will not be updated to show the new running times. They remain static and the screen shows the now-outdated details of the late or cancelled train. (Im not kidding!!)

Rolling stock - Melbournes trains are slower than a wet weekend. The tube and the overground services such as the Inter City 125s are head and shoulders above the melbourne commengs, hitachis and other rolling stock.
