London Wasps approach Dai Young – Rugby Rumours
Reports are surfacing that London Wasps are set to appoint Dai Young as their new Directors of Rugby. Young has been working with the Blues for almost one decade and he will be required to step away from the club to take up the big responsibility. Sources
have said that the Wasps have offered him a three-year contract if he quits from Cardiff Blues coaching duties.
Young has remained highly successful with the Blues and recently he led the club to the Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo-Welsh victory. The Blues are not ready to be deprived of his services but and Young has not yet made a final decision or announcement. He
has shown his interest to coach his national side but he has not yet received such any offer. He may have to wait for his turn unless the present coach of the Welsh side quits.
When asked about the news, the Cardiff Blues chairman denied that Wasps have made any approach to the veteran trainer. He further said that, “We have had no approach from London Wasps regarding Cardiff Blues Director of Rugby David Young. David Young is
still in contract at the Blues and has one year to run on that contract, which we expect him to honour.”
On the other hand the Wasps spokesman Eykyn said that his name was selected after extensive efforts.
He further gave the detail of those persons who have been looked at in the process of handing over the responsibility of director. He stated that, “Dean Ryan, Alex King, Paul Turner, Neil Back and Phil Greening were all considered at one stage or another.
But Young will agree terms to take charge of his first Premiership club. He has ambitions of coaching Wales and believes he needs experience of coaching a Premiership side to do that.”
The Cardiff Blues current coach has not responded to the situation. If he avails the opportunity it will be a huge disaster for the Blues, who have become attached to their coach. Meanwhile, the Wasps have been working without their director for the last
four months. The Wasps are hopeful to use his vast experience for the betterment of their rugby.
