London Wasps release new stadium plans
The London Wasps have announced plans to build a new stadium at Wycombe Air Park at Booker.
The new ground will have a capacity of between 17,500 and 20,000 and will be shared with football side Wycombe Wanderers. The club also has plans to develop a Wasps sports village on the same site, which
will offer facilities to both players and fans.
"We want to move forwards. Investing in a new community stadium and sports village means that the clubs can
develop their playing and non-playing sides," said owner of both clubs Steve Hayes.
A new ground will allow Wasps to advance and develop in a number of different ways. However, the cost of such a project is huge and fans can expect high prices in the near
future.
A step forward
Wasps enjoys a large support base in the English Premiership. More seats in a ground will allow the club to cut ticket waiting lists and provide more opportunities to see
the team play. This will increase support for the club on a match day and will enhance the general atmosphere.
A bigger ground will generate more revenue through gate receipts. This money can be put back into the club to pay bills, improve facilities and to sign better players.
This is vital if Wasps is going to compete with the big money that Bath and Leicester has.
The only negative is that the fans can expect to pay a small part of the bill to build the ground. This will be gained through Wasps merchandise and through ticket sales.
However, this will not be a permanent measure and the loyalty of the fans will be rewarded.
"These are exciting times as both Wasps and Wycombe Wanderers build sides
that I'm confident will be successful," add chief executive Chris Thomas.
