Does anybody know any really good bars to go to in London? My mate is celebrating his birthday on Sat but we're at a loss where to go.

  1. I always like 'Waxy O'Connors' on Rupert Street in Leicester Square

  2. Depends what kind of music you're in to, but I would recommend the Big Chill House in Kings Cross, they have a lovely roof terrace, a few rooms, some plush nooks and cranny's!!... and it's got a really hip and funky vibe going on!

    ...enjoy!

  3. Ohh   there  are  some   very    ooooold   "bars".   But   I  can't believe you  are using that word.    Surely  you have to know that there  are no  "bars"  in London...  There  are  PUBS  lol.     Sigh,   it's been  a long time,  but years  and years  ago,    I  and my   medical  student   buddies     made the rounds of  some good ones.    Seemed  to me   I  did my best  studying  over    a   big jar of  "froth" or sometimes     something a  leeeetle  stronger.

I  remember one  in Piccadilly Circus,  down some   steps.    The Cockney Pride.  I wonder  if  it could possibly  still be there?   They  served the old   traditional   dishes  like    Bangers 'n Mash.   Boiled beef n   carrots.        Bubble  'n Squeak.    etc.    and    around the walls    samples of   Cockney  Slang.     "Watch  out for the Apples  an 'Pears  (stairs).      Mind  yer  Nanny Goat  (coat)  and  w atch  yer  t*t  fer Tat  (hat).    Ahh,  had  some  g reat times    down there.

Go  out   East of London  and   check up on  some   great   very old  Pubs.   Again,   I  can't  even promise  they  are  still there, but I'll bet  a London Guide  will   tell you that.      Dirty d**k's   down Petticoat  Lane  was  another    hang  out    of ours.        Story   was  that  looooong  looooong  ago     a  member of  English  Aristocrasy    (Lord Richard,   or Sir Richard  somebody)  who   cut  a  fine   figure  on the Social Scene,  fell madly   in love.    The lady of his  affections returned them,  and  they  were formally betrothed.          Dreadfully, the poor  girl   took seriously    ill  and died on the  very  day  that the  two   were to have been   married.

He   was   devastated..  shattered.      He   stopped    taking  care of his appearance;   he    refused  to be consoled by his  friends,   and he   began to  hang  out  in  an  underground  tavern,  where  he would spend   evening  after  evening,    looking more  and  more dishevelled  and  wretched,    just sitting alone,  drinking.    Eventually,  as word    got  around,  the Tavern   started   to become known  as  Dirty d**k's, and  thus it  was  up  until the time I left   London  to see the world.      I'd love  to believe it's   still there,  along with its    rich   and amusing history.

My bet is  that between now  and Saturday  you  can   get  hold of    a  Tourist  Publication   there    that will give you  a  list of all the   most  fascinating pubs  in and  around London,  with a  little of  their history,  and  exactly how to  get there.     Have  fun, but  remember,   take a   designated  driver, or     hire a  cabbie  for  your night   out.     You could  just     wake  up  on Monday morning  in the Tower of London LOL.
