London expensive city?

London seems to be a very expensive city for practically everything. I live in Italy in Milan and i would like to compare basic food and entertainment prices between the two cities to see if there is a massive difference between the cities or if this isn't the case.

barber 15 euro bottle of becks at supermarket (big) 1,15 euro

monthly travel card (allows me all buses and trains within the city) 30 euro cinema 8 euro fuel 1,56 euro litre half a kg pasta 1,00 euro(good make) cofee at the bar(the one that british and americans call espresso) 80 cents 1kg of good quality bread 2,00-2,20euro good quality milk 1,40-1,50 a liter, pint at the pub 4,50-5,50 euro.

How much would these things cost in london?

feel free to add any other items

  1. Hey, well if you've not been to London before - you should!

Places like Madame Tussaud's, The Dungeons and The London Eye are all key activities to witness.

im 16 by the way so im just using knowledge of my parents and my trips to london but i hope it helps.

I do not drink so i do not know the bottle of becks and i am a female so i do not visit the barbers :)

    - visit www.nationalrail.co.uk for train details

    - cinema tickets can be anything from £5 - £10 then you + the popcorn and fizzy drinks money

    - diesel is £1.12 i think a litre now!! but i dont drive

    - pasta is about £1

    - espresso are about £1.50-£3 depending on the coffee shop

    - bread prices have risen but a loaf is about £1-£1.60

    - milk is about £1-£1.50

it is very much an exchange of money matter because the euro - pound sterling rates could be high and you wouldn't get much fro your money. either way London is definately a place to visit at some point in your life, even if just for a weekend.

i have been to Milan and i love it. i visit Italy annually at least because it's such a gorgeous country and Italians are so friendly. email me if you have any other queries i may be able to help with :)

  2. Central London is expensive, Full stop  That's why it's the best paid part of the UK.

Example: Can of red bull in Safeway peckham = 89p

The same can in a service station in Mayfair=£1.89

    20 Benson & hedges, in mayfair = £6.00+

    Peckham = £5.62

    Barber mayfair= from £50- 500.00

    Stepney east london, from  Ã‚£6.00

Fuel costs, don't even go there at the moment.

So it's only a relatively small section of london thats expensive, you actually pay for the area.

2 Bedroom apartment in mayfair, £4/5 thousand per month.

Deptford south london £650 per month.

It's the overheads in central london that pushes up the cost of living, that's why most indigenous londoners live outside the centre of town, and let the tourist do the rest.

1 Pint of lager in mayfair from £3.00

Eastham = £1.98, although certain chain pubs do have special offers.

So the moral of this story is: If you want to live in it, pay it,

    if not move out.

  3. Barber in London is the same: £10-12

    Becks is the same

Travel card is much cheaper in Milan

Cinema is about £10 in London - more expensive

Fuel is slightly more expensive here

    Pasta is the same

Coffee is twice as expensive here

Milk and bread about the same

    Pint here is cheaper

All depends on taxes though - our income tax is generally lower than most of Europe.

  4. will we use pounds sterling here not euros so how do you want me to compare!
