What is the best ( Cheapest and quickest ) way to travel from London to Cambridge

Car, Train, Bus ? Also, if you know, which train/bus in particular.

I live in London and I've just graduated from university, I might be employed in Cambridge and to be honest I don't want to move from London, so is it actually possible to live here and work in Cambridge ?

Thanks

  1. car to avoid m25 use a406 then a10 on a good day about 90mins from m4 j1 chiswick

  2. Your best bet would be a National Express coach from Victoria Coach Station.

  3. I would say train it may be longer.. but still i would say train

  4. Driving's probably going to be a stress if you work somewhere central in Cambridge - Cambridge is quite congested.  There are a lot of park and ride services around the town though.

If you want to commute, fast trains from King's Cross to Cambridge take less than an hour normally; or you can go from Liverpool Street and pick up the slower but cheaper trains from there.  From memory an annual season ticket is somewhere between £3,000 and £4,000.

National Express Coach 010 runs regularly from Victoria Coach Station via Stratford.  It's a lot slower, taking two hours - but it's often cheaper and the coach station in Cambridge is more central than the railway station.

So, basically, it's possible to commute from London to Cambridge (and not a bad idea as Cambridge is expensive to live in now!)  However, you will spend a lot of time travelling unless you live and work near the station at each end!

  5. car share would be your best bet. or train.

National Express is the cheapest but it goes round will's uncles and youd end up spending 2.5 hrs on the sweaty/uncomfortable thing. Thats without the time included for the weekly car/lorry crash near the stansted turning.

  6. Train is probably the most effective way to get from London to Cambridge, as both places can have quite bad road traffic problems especially in rush hour. Trains to Cambridge go from King's Cross and Liverpool Street. However it is slightly cheaper (and faster) if you live in North London to catch the train from Finsbury Park or Tottenham Hale.

The time it takes to travel by train varies, but the express trains tend to take about 45 minutes from Kings X to Cambridge and 1hr 10 mins from Liverpool Street. For actual train times see www.nationalrail.co.uk.

The train station in Cambridge is about 20 minutes walk from the City Centre, but its also very easy to bike between places in Cambridge.

So... it is possible (and I know several people who have done it the other way round) to live in London and work in Cambridge but it will be both time and money consuming.

    Good luck...

  7. Train ,Kings Cross to Cambridge

  8. licing in london and working in cambridge will be one heck of a commute. I suggest why dont you move down to cambridge and see how you feel and you can move back to london if you're not comfortable.

Anyways you can travel through national express or take a train from kings cross st. pancras station.

  9. Well depends on what part of london your from i would say go to Liverpool Street station and get the train from there to cambridge but not sure on how much it would cost.

  10. Your best bet is by train!  Anything by road can be tortuous- either getting out from or into London!

But are you sure you want to commute?  Why waste your life travelling nowhere special, when you could be spending the same time doing something more useful and enjoyable?  And what about your Personal Carbon Footprint?

Why not live/ work in Cambridge and week-end in London?  Cambridge is not the end of the Earth you know!  People are fairly civilised up there!  Alternately, why not work in London- surely you could find something to do there?

Don't be so hide-bound- explore life a little- it can be fun!
