London to serve as a final test for athletes ahead of Daegu challenge – Athletics news
The Aviva London Grand Prix is kicking-off on August 5 and for having a field which contains no less than 40 world and Olympic medallists, spectators can only hope to see an over-awing competition for next two days.
However, regardless of how important it is for athletes from various disciplines to strive for titles in the London battle, this is a given fact that all of them are focusing on the IAAF World Championships in Athletics to commence in Daegu, South Korea,
in the final week of this month.
Although every athletic discipline to be contested at London will be important, however, the pre-favourite athletes that spectators will look forward to perform will comprise of Asafa Powell, David Rudisha, Sally Pearson, David Oliver and Dayron Robles.
However, most of these athletes will take part in contests that are not recognised by the Diamond Race Standings.
Nevertheless, the competition will be a real feast to enjoy. For instance, Powell, the Jamaican sprinter who is striving to get back into form, will have the formidable task of emerging against emphatic runners like Nesta Carter and Yohan Blake, who boast
of sub-ten Personal Bests this year.
In the middle distance meet, it will be the ever dominating David Rudisha from Kenya, who will encounter the equally talented Abubaker Kaki from Sudan and Kenya’s Boaz Lalang. The contest between Rudisha and his competitor from Sudan will be an interesting
one, as Abubaker has been unbeaten this entire year. Both athletes will surely put up a wonderful battle for the crowd to enjoy, as a win in this event will surely boost their confidence for the tournament in Daegu.
On the women’s side, it will be hurdler, Sally Pearson that spectators at Crystal Palace would like to see performing. Pearson, the 24-year-old hurdler has a Personal Best of 12.48 seconds, which she marked about a month ago at the Samsung Diamond League
held in Birmingham. Encountering her will be local athlete, Tiffany Ofili Porter, who marked her dominance at the Aviva Trials last week.
