  1. Should be kept in the Public sector and run by a central goverment agency.

Cant believe they are still thinking of breaking it up like the mainline after all the problems

  2. The public bit (London Underground Ltd - responsible for operating the trains) failed to clean up some mess in a carriage upon which I slipped on and tore a hamstring.

The private part (Metronet - responsible for the track and tunnels (until it went bust!)) allowed a fire blanket to roll on to a track and cause a train to derail.

Both in the space of three months. I now limp and suffer with anxiety. I don't use the underground any more.

Anyway, I think it shows same s**t, different pile. The workers are the same anyway.

  3. Private.

  4. Public runs the trains

Privite keeps the track and statcions

  5. Public.

Privatisation has only splintered the underground making it less safe.

London Underground ONLY control staff and stations, everything else is contracted out this includes cleaners, track maintenance, signalling, rolling stock, and various other roles.

The reason nothing gets done is, EG; a rail is damaged.

before it gets repaired the first thing they have to do is decide who is responsible, once they have apportioned blame then and only then does the work get done.

When it was public and solely run by LUL it didn't matter who caused it, it got done by railway qualified workers, not subbies.

  6. Public, all the way.  After British Rail was privatised in 1994 there were derailments at Ladbroke Grove, Hatfield, Potters Bar others, with loss of life. The PPP scheme is a disaster waiting to happen. Since it was implemented in 2003, there have been derailments at Chancery Lane, White City, Mile End, Camden Town, Archway, and Barons Court to name but a few. It is a miracle no-one has been killed yet.

There are more and more "temporary" speed restrictions being put in on an almost daily basis (I use inverted commas as I've seen some that have been there for in excess of two years) due to the poorly maintained rails..

The private consortia responsible for London Underground have no interest in public safety, they're only interested in s******g as much money out of the company as possible. There was even talk of only checking the tracks every 72 hours as opposed to every night. The drivers threatened not to take trains out if this happened but the idea still looms.

Without wishing to scare anyone I fear there is going to be a major disaster on the Underground in the near future, not through terrorism but through penny-pinching, much the ame as we have seen on the mainline railways.

  7. Public, the private sector only look for profit, hence all the incidents since going private, they overlook safety.
