  1. Cant you get a local train where you lve and go two stations to get the feel of travel  Underground study the route you will travel across london most Diaries have map in them  and you will see its multi coloured  study the colours for your ride/ rides  those colours are your main guide  for esculators  and platforms if studied for a week or so before travel it  will all fall into place  once you get there ticket gates no problem at all bit like going to a football match plenty of room for your self and case .. Far better doing it on your own than with someone else to distract you  try and relax look around  London overground Stations are like small high streets,Big M  Burger King   W H Smiths cloth shops tie shop  if you miss a connection dont panic ask to see the Station Master

and say you went in the wrong direction on the underground would he give you permission to continue to use my ticket on a later train..   Just be nice ,confident most bend over backwards tobe helpful if crying and excited you will loose out on his help  you understand that   a sweet female smile works wonders even in London  lol

  2. The ticket barriers at most stations have a separate luggage "slot" next to one of the gates. You just push your baggage through and you use the gate as per normal. Alternatively, the gates are always manned by somebody, mainly to allow pushchairs and wheelchairs through but if they're in a good mood, they'll let heavily loaded passengers through as well. (They're also there for safety and in case anybody has ticket problems).

The slot to put your ticket in is on the RIGHT side of the gate. Put it in, magnetic stripe down, and it'll yank it from you and spit it out a slot on the top. You'll need to do the same at the exit station but, depending on the ticket (eg a single or one-way), you may not get the ticket back.

No point rushing for a train as another will probably be along within a couple of minutes. Hold on whilst aboard as some of those tracks are rough. Just like any city, take care of your belongings and never leave baggage unattended or valuables on show.

  3. In addition to the advice given in the previous answer, if your cases are too big for the automatic gates, most stations also have a manned exit to overcome the problem of large luggage. Just use that, showing your ticket as you go through.
