Londoners: Hiring a pub/club in Central London?

Question

Have any of you had a good experience hiring a room or part of a bar at a club or a pub in London? I am looking to host a party of mostly graduate students so the crowd will be ~24 years old. There might be 30-45 of us, and we don't want to go anywhere too expensive.

Any recommendations on SPECIFIC venues that will let us hire a room (preferably for free)?

Pimlico Wine Vaults is nice - they do expect you to put a deposit down but it will come with wine and finger buffet.  It is in Victoria/Pimlico border, down the side street of Queen Victoria Sports Centre.  If you are nice to the bar staff, they may even let you use the stereo aswell!
