Question:

Long Distance Charges?

I went to call a friend long distance the other day on our landline, but when I dialed the number I was told I needed some sort of 5 digit code to complete the call. I asked my mom what that meant, and she said that we canceled our long distance last month. But later that day, my dad was able to make a long distance call seemingly no problem.

The next day, my friend ended up calling me and we talked for a while. So, basically my question is are incoming long distance calls free? Whether we have a long distance service or not

  1. Yes, incoming calls are free.  Only the caller (one who dials the number) will pay for long distance).  While your mom says she cancelled the long distance, she most likely called the phone company and activated a feature that only lets you call long distance when a password/passcode is entered.  This is usually done by parents to curb their kids (teenagers) long distance phone charges.

  2. when your friend calls you it cost him the long distance and not you

  3. Did your parents know that you could have free calls from your phone anywhere in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Hawaii for a low monthly rate?  From 9.99 and up?

Anyway, anyone can call you from anywhere and it doesn't cost you anything on the land line.  At least here in the United States.
