I have a 1993 Buick LeSabre that has about 53,000 miles on it. I want to drive it up to Canada, about 1,100 miles round trip. Do you think cars that are old with low mileage should not go on long distance trips, or would this be a reflection that it should be ok? I just had brakes serviced last week, change oil regularly, tires are fine and the engine runs well *knock on wood*. Any and all insight on this question would be greatly appreciated!

  1. You should junk it. It probably has a bad flux capacitor that should have died at 50,000 if you take a trip now you may get stuck in 1982 and you'll have to relive the whole new kids on the block era. You dont want that do you???

  2. This car is one of the most dependable American cars that was made. Based on how it sounds like you have maintained it you shouldn't have any problems at all. I would take it in to your local mechanic or dealership for a safety inspection. They should check your belts, hoses, coolant, oil, brakes, suspension, etc. As long as your safety inspection comes back fine you shouldn't have any problems.

  3. No it should be fine. In fact a road trip will do it good. Age is not a major factor if it has been kept up.Enjoy your trip..............UJN

  4. I would not hesitate to make the trip. 53,000 miles is low although for it's age things such as suspension components and rubber hoses under the hood may be decaying. I would suggest inspecting all the hoses under the hood to make sure none are cracking or rotted to prevent you from running into future problems when on the trip due to a busted hose.
