Question:

Long Island City, NY v. Newark?

I'm planning on staying at the Days Inn, Long Island City, NY, which is near 33 St. Any information/advice regarding the safety of the surrounding area and the safety of catching the 7 subway train? It's just us two girls traveling and so I'm concerned about safety. Would it be safe catching the train at night? Also, any idea about taxi prices from that area to the city (i.e., Times Square or Grand Central Station). If Days Inn isn't in a good area, would staying in Newark be better convenience and safety-wise? We were also thinking of staying at Hilton Penn Station Newark. I would appreciate ANY information.. THANK YOU!!!
