I take the LIRR about once every 2-3 weeks. Is there a way to save money on tickets? Any deals?

With your weekly or monthly pass, you'll get weekly MetroCard for Weekly Ticket, or Monthy MetroCard (30-Day from first day activated) for Monthly Ticket.

MTA Metro-Card is good for Long Island Bus, NYCT, MTA Bus, Roosevelt Island Tramway and Bee-Line Buses.

No, since you are only an occasional rider, there are no deals available.  The best you can do is to take the LIRR during off-peak periods.  You'll save a little bit off the peak fare.
