Long Run set for another King George VI Chase success
Long Run has been given the highest odds for victory in the William Hill King George VI Chase Grade 1 at Kempton in England on Wednesday, December 26, 2012.
He was victorious in the same event in 2011, so his confidence level will be good at the moment. He was not rated as the favourite to succeed back then, but surprised one and all with his stunning performance.
The Nicky Henderson’s trainee started the race in a decent manner and started building momentum steadily. He was soon in the lead and did not allow his opponents to catch him afterwards.
He finished at the top by a staggering margin of 12 lengths, beating his stable mate, Riverside Theatre. He will once again be looking forward to another strong run, but the competition will not be easy at all.
However, the French gelding has full support of his team, and he will be looking forward to meet their expectations on a heavy ground at Kempton.
Robert Waley-Cohen, owner of Long Run, believes that his challenger will be in an ideal position to claim the all important contest.
According to him, “He's done everything we've asked him to since Haydock and is coming to the races in very good form. I think he will like the ground better than at Haydock and will come on a bit from that.”
He went onto say, “The first circuit at Haydock was very slow but that won't happen at Kempton, whoever's making it. I know he still finished second but it was a much less gruelling race than last year.”
Things have really worked out well for Long Run in 2012, as he has been delivering some terrific results for his team. He started the year with an impressive victory, but failed to repeat a similar show afterwards.
Despite that, his performances have not been bad at all and he has never dropped out of the top-three in his entire career. This is an impressive statistic and he will have to work hard in the future in order to maintain it.
Overall, the seven-year-old contestant has participated in 23 races, winning 13 of them whereas finished as a runner up on six occasions. In addition to that, he secured the third spot in four races, which shows what he is capable of achieving at the highest
level.
