Long Run set to school before Gold Cup
Long Run is set to school on Friday, March 1, 2013 before going into the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in England on the 15th of this month. He is definitely going to be one of the top contenders in the main event, which has attracted numerous quality
runners.
Long Run has not taken part in any race this year, which means that he could be a touch rusty at the moment. However, his form appears to be really good and a bit of schooling will help him make further improvements with the passage of time.
The eight-year-old gelding has never dropped out of the top three in his career until now, which shows that he does not settle for anything less than perfection. His rivals will definitely not find it easy to challenge him in the Gold Cup and they will be
hoping that he remains rusty before the mega competition.
It is highly unlikely that the seasoned runner fails to meet the expectations of his fans. He has been delivering some terrific performances over the years and his team will have the confidence in him.
The French challenger has appeared in a total of 24 events, winning 14 of them whereas finished as a runner up on six times. In addition to that, he has secured the third spot thrice, which shows what he is capable of achieving.
In his most recent race, Long Run was rated as the outright favourite to succeed and he secured the top spot after a nail biting competition with Captain Chris. The conditions were extremely difficult, but he ended on top by just a neck distance.
Despite his good form he will be schooling this Friday and his jockey, Sam Waley-Cohen stated, “He normally schools very well so in some ways it would be hard for him to school better than he does. It's more of an education to see that he doesn't have an
adverse reaction.”
He added, “He is a bit keen in the early stages of his races, which suggests he doesn't particularly want them, but then towards the end of the race he probably does want them. We have to balance the two. It will probably be a decision that is made relatively
late.”
