Long Run well-prepared for Kempton’s William Hill King George VI Chase
Long Run, who has accomplished numerous achievements so far in his career, is now eyeing the Grade 1, William Hill King George VI Chase, to be held at Kempton on the Boxing Day. Trainer, Nicky Henderson will be represented by more than one entry, but Long
Run is undoubtedly his best prospect in the Christmas showpiece.
The Mrs Marie-Christine Gabeur-bred has made plenty of great efforts so far. He started his career in May 2008, and ran mostly outside Great Britain in the beginning. After collecting several big prizes in France, the skilful horse finally reached England
in December 2009.
He did not take any time to adjust his game to the conditions. In his debut appearance in this part of the world, he demonstrated an excellent show to win the Grade 1, Williamhill.com Feltham Novices' Chase (In Memory of Nigel Clark) on the Boxing Day in
2009.
He continued his great progress, and won another graded meeting at Warwick, beating Joe Jo Star by a dozen lengths in the Grade 2, Totesport.com Kingmaker Novices' Chase.
After facing a couple of unlucky defeats at Cheltenham in 2010, the dashing runner returned to the winning ways early in 2011. He stole the show in the Grade 1, William Hill King George VI Chase, ahead of crushing the opponents in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham
last year.
The Robert Waley-Cohen-owned remained unlucky over last Christmas, when he finished second to Kauto Star. The son of Cadoudal was third in the last edition of the Gold Cup, when Synchronised surprisingly took the race away from him.
On his seasonal comeback last month, the bay and brown gelding secured the second place. Although Long Run could not strike, his performance was really fascinating. He is perfectly ready for the Christmas cracker. The owner believes that the main danger
to Long Run will be his stable-mate, Riverside Theatre.
He said a few days ago: "It's possible that winning the Gold Cup so soon, as a six-year-old, has taken a h**l of a lot out of him. And I suspect two hard races early last season came home to roost in last season's Gold Cup. I was down at the yard on Saturday
and saw him on the gallops. He looks in great order."
