what can you do on long car journeys?

Depending on where you're going, you can plan fun stops along the way. I'm a big fan of roadside attractions and oddities, and I usually check out http://www.roadsideamerica.com/ before I start any journey.

Car games are always a plus for a long car ride, and can include conversation games such as "I would rather..." or "I spy." Also, be aware that finding a good diner can turn a simple road trip into a an amazing adventure, so be sure to skip the McDonald's for home cooking.

bring a portable DVD (or laptop) with you and watch movies.

read a book

get a book on automobile games and play some of them

bring your IPOD with you and listen to music and just chill

make sure you bring snacks with you!

Suggestion: get up early and travel; check into hotel/motel in early afternoon....pick one with a pool!
