Long day’s fasting does not stop Rashid Sidek from attending training sessions at University of Bath
Rashid Sidek, the national coach of Malaysia, has not stopped attending training sessions of his squad at the University of Bath in England, despite of the fact that he has been fasting for long hours.
He attended the session with Tey Seu Bock and shuttlers including World Number One and top seed, Lee Chong Wei, Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren and Chan Kwong Beng in the hall at the Bath Sports Village. The coach is working on the psychological aspects of the
game by analysing the conditions of the players.
Rashid said, “The fasting hours during the Ramadan month are long during the summer season here. We start our fast after 2am and breakfast at about 9pm. It’s about 18 hours but I can get used to it. It’s all in the mind.”
The coach is optimistic that this training camp at Bath will certainly help shuttlers in becoming physically and mentally strong for the forthcoming World Championships, starting from August 8 in London. The whole Malaysian squad will leave Bath for London,
where they will play at the Wembley Arena before the events starts.
While talking about the playing conditions in the mega event, Rashid said, “The players will face all kinds of challenges during the world meet. I hope they will overcome them with sheer perseverance.”
Rexy Mainaky, the doubles coach is also satisfied with the combined training camp at Bath and is hopeful that the shuttlers will deliver well in the world meet.
While talking about the condition of the Malaysian squad in training, Rexy said, “We are like one big family here. It is good to see the team camaraderie and the spirit of togetherness in them. Team morale is high and we hope it will stay that way even when
we move our base to Wembley.”
Malaysia is still looking for their first title at the World Championships, as the country is yet to taste victory in this tournament. The national squad of Malaysia is completely ready to compete in the world meet and all shuttlers are motivated to break
the deadlock in the event by winning titles in their respective categories.
