Question:

Long distance networking? ?

I have 3 computers in 3 different places. 2 of them are in an office, and one is at home. The only problem is every computer is in a different city (about 25-50 miles from each other).

For my business, if i'm on one computer, i want to be able to access the data on the other two in real time. (flash drives and external drives are getting annoying and new data has to be constantly added by physically going to those locations)

So how do i set it up so i have some sort of network between the 3 computers, allowing me share data between them in no time. Maybe some sort of server or something that can be connected to with a user name and password possibly which would allow me to see the other 2 pc's?

Any ideas would be appreciated, its getting really annoying having to drive 25-50 miles to update data everyday!!!1

  1. If you want a commerical grade secure system just use GoToMyPC. http://gotomypc.com

If you want a good solid system for free use RealVNC. http://realvnc.com

This allows you to run your remote PC from anywhere with an internet connection.

  2. go to http://www.filehippo.com. Here u can find everything and choose which u want

  3. easist way is to set up a hamachi network between the computers

Its a zero config ( easy) virtual private network between the computers

You can have a shared folder of data if you wish

    https://secure.logmein.com/products/hama...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi

If you want to have remote access to a computer install vnc

you install the server on the computer you wish to control and the viewer on the computer which will do the viewing

normally you enter the ip address of the computer to view in the server box of the viewing computer

Its a bit more complex with 3 computers for the vnc so you will have to ask here how to designate the 2 computers to view

Having access to a shared folder is the standard fare of Hamachi

there are free versions of both products

    http://www.realvnc.com/products/free/4.1...

  4. Have you tried "Hamachi" yet?

I can't say enough great things about it.

I have a similar situation as you and Hamachi takes care of it all.

Learn more about it here: https://secure.logmein.com/products/hama...

Wikipedia has some information too about Hamachi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamachi

You can try either their 30 day version or their free version.  The 30 day version is great and then if you don't pay Hamachi reverts to the free version but keeps on working fine.

    Good Luck!
