I am not very good at running/jogging for long distances because I get really out of breath and my legs start hurting. I also dont have very good stamina

Does anyone have any tips on how I can increase my stamina by training or get better at running/jogging

Thankyou

  1. It's mostly in your genes and you can't change those! but saying that there is a lot that you can do, start off by setting your self targets, but not ridiculous targets, so don't expect to much to start of with. Just start off by going on a run and say jogging for a minute then walking for a minute and as you get fitter and fitter change the ratios so your running for two minutes and walking for only 30 seconds, eventually after you do this for a long time, you'll be able to run without walking in between and once you do that you'll start to notice quite a difference in your fitness, but take it easy at first then build it up gradually, also be committed to what you do it's the only way to get better and i know it sounds stupid and everything, ut never give up!

  2. Start slow and run everyday....some short distances, some longer then as weeks progress increase your speed. Key is consistancy.

  3. i was a good long distance runner at school. the way i increased my distances was to push my self a bit further every time.

what i mean is don't think you can run a mile because you can run a 100 meters fast.

one day set your self a course IE down to the shops and back. do that until that run is easy for you.

once you are comfortable with that run pick a further point and increase bit by bit.

soon you will be able to run around for hours. also put a bit of cross counrty in to that. it will give that extra bit of  stamina

don't forget a good diet goes a long way. before a run i would eat a lot of pasta

  4. Don't worry, no one is born with endurance, it takes training. The great thing about long distance running is that practically anyone can become decent with proper training. Try running a mile everyday, and once you feel comfortable with that distance, build up to 1.5 miles. Do that for about two weeks, and add onto that, and just keep adding on every couple of weeks. Before you know it you'll be able to go on 10 mile runs, and it will feel like nothing.

  5. You sound just like me when I started track. I didn't know where i wanted to go so i went with long distance. These words got me through it when i hurt. Embrace the pain use it, get mad pick someone if you run with others say i want to beat that person. Eventually I was able to get third place not bad i think. I think the only thing that helped me was uphill running then downhill jogging never walking for 10 minutes then increase the time.

  6. Most of these already posted I agree with. It is something that you just slowly develop.

However I believe not anyone can be a sprinter that is in your genes. You cannot change your top speed, sure you can increase it but everyone as a certain level they stop inproving at in sprinting.

But in distance running...it is NOT in your genes. Anyone can train to be a distance runner. But does take alot of time and hard work. But anyone could be a distance runner as opposed to sprinting where is comes down to all genetics.

    that is just fact

  7. Consistency with training and building up your mileage base will help you greatly. Stamina comes with time. Keep at it and you'll be reaping the benefits in no time!
