My husband and I are going on a 10 hour flight with our 2 children in september. They will be 2 and a 1/2 and 10 months old then.

Any tips on how to keep them entertained on the flight?

Any experiences with flying with young children??

  1. i went through 2, 11 hour flights and 2 five hour flights with my young one. the air hostesses are helpful in getting kids free gift packs with pencles and cards in them plus all planes have little t.vs in the head rests in frount of you with like 40 channels. youll have many kids movies on their that play and cartoon channels. plus a trip to the toilet for a walk helps and walk up and down the plane too.

  2. I've got an 11 month old and we are returning to Peru with her for the second time. The flight from Toronto is about 81/2 hours I believe.

Some really helpful hints; make sure to have a bottle or pacifier ready for take off. As you reach high altitude the baby is unable to "pop" their ears unless they are sucking on something. This will not only comfort your child but it will be good for the other guests on the flight as baby shouldnt cry.

For your younger 10 month old bring some favorites like teddy and blankie and a few toys they are interested.

For both of them buy a few new toys. This will excite them and keep them happy.

For your 2 year old I would suggest a favorite book, a few things they are interested in like coloring or dolly. Bring some fun snacks for them and if you have room in your carry on try a small puzzle. Also bring something that will comfort them incase they are a bit scared like a teddy or their special blankie.

  3. Ouch, good luck...I have a 2 and a 1/2 year old and a newborn and the only thing that will keep my toddler glued to his seat for a few hours is a portable dvd player...I think you're allowed to use them during a flight. Look for one with a long battery life. Oh...and lots of favourite snacks will help too. Not great parenting but it should keep you sane till you get there which is all that matters!

  4. take a few small brand new toys with you-they will play with one for hours make sure they are wrapped up as it can be chilly on board they will hopefully sleep thru most of it

  5. Take the following:

-Blanket from home as a comfort.

    -A favourite toy/rattle etc

    -Pacifier

-Something the 2yr old likes to eat-sweets/raisons etc depending on flight restrictions.

    -Colouring book and pencils

    -Books to read together

-Do you have a portable DVD player and headphones ?

Otherwise once on flight you can keep them amused by walking up and down, maybe captain will let you take 2 year to have a look up front. See if you can encourage them to sleep-maybe adjust bed time the few weeks before you leave so that they will be tired on the flight.

  6. We have just come back from Cuba with 3 young children. We took books, activity sets and their favourite toy. For your baby definately take a soother for take off and landing or have a bottle at the ready.

  7. We're flying with our then 3yr old in November, I've started collecting small toys and books, I'm going to wrap them as little presents, Things like toys, books, crayon and paper etc, also pack some snacks, If its a longhauk then there should be something to watch on the scrrens for the older child, if your lucky they'll sleep for a good while too, check with your airline as to what they offer for kids.
