  1. Atlanta traffic actually will mess you up.  The airport is actually 30 minutes away from downtown.  The only thing you can do is hope you land on time and perhaps visit one of the travel spas in the area or hang out at the airport bar.  A movie theater was just built about 10 mins from the airport so you can do that.  If you want to be adventurous  and like culture you can hop on Marta which is public transportation get off at the Arts Center Station and visit the High Museum of Art or the five points station and visit the cnn center and Olympic park but this wouldn't take 9 hours and be sure to check you luggage you dont want to take too much with you.

Also Atlanta is the worlds busiest airport so you will need to be at the airport atleast 2 hours before your flight so you can make it through security and make sure you get a second boarding pass that saying you are departing from Atlanta so you can get back through secruity to make your second flight.  9 hours is a lot of time to fill not sure where you are flying from or too but you may want to check Delta and American to see if you can cut your delay.

  2. Take the MARTA train from the airport.  Get off at these stops for some sites:

-Five Points (downtown connection and connected to the Underground Mall)

-CNN Center/GA Dome area (area close to Olympic park and the GA Aquarium.  might have to change to the East-West train at 5 Points.

-Buckhead by Lenox Mall (some of the richest shopping and dining in the country)

-Perimeter Mall (another upscale mall area not too far from Buckead)

  3. You'll enjoy Atlanta.  In October the weather will be cooler, too.

Hop on MARTA and head into town.  Five Points Station is the hub.  Like art?  Hit the High Museum, near Arts Center station.

Really you need a car to enjoy a lot of what Atlanta has to offer.  But for a nine-hour layover, hoofing it around town, just seeing some sights, should be a lot of fun.

  4. are you at all into history?  lots of Civil War stuff to see.  Underground Atlanta, but that's at night.  here's a list.

  5. I would definitely choose Atlanta!  Downtown isnt far from the airport (5 miles or so) and you could go and see a lot of the Olympic 1996 stuff.  There is also a nice area called Atlantic Station that has some really nice shops and dining.  Stone Mountain is another nice place to visit. But with only 9 hours and the traffic, I would suggest going no farther than downtown.

  6. Wait a minute...

You just said you had a 9 hour lay over in Houston in October!

Dude, you need a travel agent!
