Long putts help Karin Sjodin post good score
Swedish Karin Sjodin was more than happy with her performance in the opening round of LPGA Hana Bank Championship 2012 as she said that long putts helped her post a good score.
Sjodin started the LPGA Hana Bank Championship at Ocean Course, Incheon, South Korea, in a field packed with almost all the prominent LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars, but her confidence was not shaky at all as she fully capitalised on her solid putting skills.
The Swedish star carded an overall 64 in the first round, which reflects how calm she was—even on the trickiest holes.
With no bogey and a few lapses, Sjodin cemented her position right from the start, but  commentators said the next rounds will test her skills even more rigorously.
Speaking at the end of the round on Friday, Sjodin said that her overall performance was good, but when it came to the greens, she had to rely on long putts rather than a short game.
“I was hitting the ball really solid but maybe not very straight at all times.  The birdies I made were long putts.  I hit it close three times and missed all three,” she shared.
“It seems to be a good idea to hit it far away and make long putts.  My birdies were all long putts, I didn't make any short putts.  It was from here to the table or from here to there.  I had all long putts.  I hit it short three times and missed all three”.
The LPGA titan went on to say that despite not being able to do her best in most of the recent tournaments, her putting has been something she can put her trust in, and she is going to prove it this week.
Commentators said the first round saw players make good scores, but the course proved tough for many as some of the holes made it hard to make long putts.
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen emerged as the best player in the first round as she fired a 63 to seize an early lead. Pettersen also expressed her confidence in her putting, saying she did not find it difficult to play on the greens.
