my j.o. team is thinking of switching to long sleeved next year for uniforms. Aren't they really hot, or are they better?

  1. I love the idea, simply because I was trained (and "grew up") with long sleeves.

If I remembered it correctly, international games would not allow short sleeve on the court until one day an American male setter showed up with short sleeve. That might be THE day that changed the whole world... but I am not quite sure.

I still have one fo my "old" long-sleeve jerseys in my wardrobe that reminds me those "old" days, and I really love to see more young players in long sleeve. I believe the idea of wearing long sleeve was more for protection than for fashion. I never thought they made me feel hot/warm, even when I was playing on rugged outdoor-court. They made me feel good, and I never felt there was any difference in my passing or bumping.

  2. well i definately prefer short sleeved.. long sleeve gets hot, and in my opinion your bumps aren't as controlled with long sleeves.

  3. I believe that long sleeves help you pass better because of the cushioning concept. That is why you are taught to pass with relaxed arms. Same idea, soft controlled platform.

I do not like them though because being a "young" player, I am not used to them. I think it is mostly preference with a few advantages on either side.

I would just say be consistent. Practicing short sleeves and playing long or vice versa is not smart.

  4. long sleeved jerseys are good. i always wanted long sleeved volleyball uniforms. although for some people it can be a bad thing. if they get too hot they could get hurt from heat exhaustion. it all depends on how the individual is.

  5. i've never tried them before, but mabe they can help orotect you from diving

  6. i would say stick to the short sleeves, for me personally i cant play with my sleeves on so i always would pull my sleeves up before bumping. i think that when i bump with my sleeves i feel like the ball is going to be outta control, so i perfre short sleeve uniforms.

  7. The only thing that I don't like about them is that they can mess up your passing. And yeah, they're hot.

  8. I always found that long sleeved shirts made me "feel" like I was passing better.  And since I "thought" that the long sleeves made me a better passer, they really did make me a better passer.

I found that long sleeves actually provide a little more cushion on the passes.  They also stay drier than your forearms would during a match.  And when you dive, you will not get the floor burn on your forearms and elbows if you do not land correctly.

I did not feel that long sleeves were any hotter than short sleeves.

I personally prefer the long sleeves, but I would guess that if you took a poll of all the people in this forum, I would be the minority.

  9. I would think that they are going to be hotter and that it will be harder to get a bounce of your arms for a pass when you have a sleeve on it! Personally I like a uniform with no sleeve at all!! Oh and for the people with shorter arms the sleeve might get in the way!!! So I would think that the best way to go is to not get long sleeves!!

  10. i like playing in long sleeves, they give me a sense of playing better. the shirts i wear, though, are loose. i do have a compression shirt that i sometimes wear, but it doesn't effect my passing unless i hit in on the wrist. if you are going to go with long sleeves, make sure they are of a cooling material, if not, you will get really warm. i find them comfortable and cool, and they look good. i would rather see girls play in short sleeves, but then, i'm a guy so...it kind of skews the scale a little. my advise: go out and buy a spandex long sleeve shirt and try it a practice, then you decide if you like it or not.

  11. I presonally don't like long sleeves.  Its more of a personal choice but i find that its a lot hotter and if they don't fit perfectly then they are uncomfortable.

I can never seem to find a perfect fit for long sleeves (they always seem to be really tight on my arms and baggy around my stomach)

  12. I personally like them, they look good with short spandex shorts.but i do pull the sleeves up before i play, cause sometimes it messes with my passing.
