  1. indeed.

  2. I for 1 will NOT be doing voluntary work. it really bothers me seeing the neighbours sit on doorsteps all door on our neighbourhood and claim benefits while i work for a living. If i was on the dole claiming benefits i would at least be looking for a job as something to do and get me out the house for a few hours a day.

  3. It's not always a case of not being bothered, some areas do not have jobs and some people do not have transport to get to areas where there are jobs.

Don't just jump on the bandwagon, have a thought of your own.

However the idea of asking them to do voluntary work to open more doors and increase the quality of their CV is a good idea, what voluntary work would you have them do, I would suggest nursing and caring for old people, allowing them the ability to do reduced cost training if they are interested in pursuing a career.

Volunteering is not working for free, everyone involved in it should get something from it, so if you were assuming they could sweep the streets your a long way from an answer

EDIT: I'm just please Catalina that you have never been made redudent when you are an older person and then struggled to be placed in roles

but yes if we let people die it will truely make our country a better place!

    Idiot

  4. people on job seekers have to apply for at least 1 job a week and are encouraged to do voluntary projects. i know, i was on it. it was a very hard and embarrassing thing to do, but there was no work available for me at the time. one day you or someone you know might become dependent on benefits, have you ever thought about that?

  5. I think your comment about "cannot be bothered" is labelling all and sundry in the same boat.

I think that recently it was brought in that people on benefits would be forced to do some kind of work,  they said they would start with the ones who had been on benefits short term and then work through the list...........I think they should first be looking at those that have been on benefits the longest as many (not all) are working the system. But there are  many  honest people on benefits who would love to work, regain some self esteem and have money in their pocket. There are many issues here, not enough jobs because foreigners are employed for less money being one. They say that Brits don't want them so foreigners do .......bull, it's that they don't want to pay decent wages and some foreigners have lower ideals than Brits so accept less.

In all my years when I lived in the UK (including last year) I have never been on the dole for longer than 3 months, I always managed to find myself a job, got my act together and managed to get out of that degrading predicament. I am 56 not a young woman so it's doubly hard to find work when you are older, but I still found good work. It is out there if you want it!!

Voluntary work should be done by young offenders, not given community service and never turning up for it.

If you want to get people back into work you have to give them a decent wage, a sense of pride and a reason to get out of bed.

Lets hope that you never have to embarass yourself in the job centre!

  6. Thats not the correct term

It is Long Term Unemployed. They may not be seeking jobs due to disability or incapacity.

Long term claimants of Job Seekers Allowance ARE made to do voluntary work. It's called the NEW DEAL. Came in in 1997 the day Tony B.Liar took over.

Please do your research before gobbing off about subjects you know nothing about.

  7. Simple. Jobseekers allowance should be paid at a more realistic level for 6 months, I.E. MUCH HIGHER. Social security should be abolished. Britain cannot afford it and it is socially corrosive. It will have to end soon anyway. So, if after 6 months you haven't found a job, YOU GET NOTHING. This will focus peoples minds. It needs to coupled with more proactive policing, along the lines of the south american model, so that arbitrary violence is met with arbitrary violence. This again will focus people and make them think twice about the consequences of their actions. For too long people have been feather bedded in Britain. Has it made them happy ? No !!! It is time for ALL British people to grow up and join the real world. Plus see how many immigrants want to come here when they here there is no longer ' free ' money and the freedom to commit crime with minimal consequences ? Not many, I can assure you. They don't like us, and they sure don't come for the weather. Bingo, all problems solved !!!

  8. I was long term JS doing voluntary work they put me on New Deal and I had to leave my voluntary work (because i was working every weekday the course was the same hours) so I could go on a 'get back to work' course called TNG (Training Network Group) in which they said they would give people work experience/skills and 40% that attended left with jobs. They were overcrowded very few people left with jobs. It was very disheartening and I believe a waste of my time, I would rather have stayed at my voluntary work. What the job centre want you to do is not optional. The New Deal voluntary work thats been mentioned in called work placement not everyone goes on it though, and its not long term.

The job centre is very badly run, the departments don't communicate well and if they were more efficient maybe people would be using their time how they wished.

  9. well actually smarta@@, you do have to do voluntary work being on job seekers, but only after a certain period of time of being on new deal, i should know coz i had to it a few years ago! i was placed in charity shop and had to work 5 days a week. I only got an extra £1o a week for doing this but its there to give people an incentive to go out and work, and i ws only on job seekers because i was living in another part of the country for just a few weeks til i got married, i still looked for work and managed to get a job 4 weeks before i got married, i could have easily have stayed on benefits for those 4 weeks but i chose not to, but i was thankful for that money until i got myself in employment!

  10. You're a right double act you two aren't you?

    Nice....

  11. I think you and your side kick should actually know a few individuals  outcome of life  before making generalised flame bait questions and answers.Believe me,swop, you may then be more specific to your wrath. This year will see many walking the path to nothingness, sit back and think..Feel free,I will vacate my shoes for you.Would you survive, doubt it.

  12. Most of these 'jobseekers' dont have two brain cells to rub together, i wouldn't want them anywhere near my relatives if they have had a heavy night on the strongbow.

  13. actually the best thing to do is cut their money off after 2 years

if you can't get a job in 2 years perhaps losing your free money my help

i'm sure starvation is an excellent motivator

  14. The way i view this is it depends how much the individual is taking out of the system each week.

If they are taking just job seekers what is that about £60 ish, doing a weeks work on this would be illegal as it would work out at just over £10 a day you are getting payed.

For those claiming free housing, free council tax and Job seekers on top, well that's a different matter & they should be held accountable in some way or another.

I still think working for nothing should only be kept as punishment for criminals, alot on job seekers are on it through no fault of there own so why punish them further :)
