Long term disability out of the country?

Hi, I will have to leave the country because my wife is going to be treat for a cancer in her country. I am covered for long term disability so I could take a stress leave to take car of her.

Generally, Am I still going to get paid if I am out of the country?

If no, do you know a trick get it?

  2. Generally, you can't take a "stress leave" and have it covered by your disability policy.  And if you leave the country, likely you're not going to be available on demand for regular doctor appointments to the insurance company's doctor.

    I don't think you'll get paid either way.    But you'll need to read the policy, and talk to the agent who sold it to you to be sure.

I have never heard of an LTD policy covering "stress leave" either.  I'm sure your employer lets you take time off, but they didn't write your insurance contract.  If a doctor certified you with a debilitating anxiety disorder, that might be a different story.  Your physical location doesn't usually matter.  You just tell them where to send the checks.

    The truth is that a general answer means very little.  You need an answer that deals with your situation and your contract.  Call your agent and/or the company for that.
