Long-time infielder Orlando Cabrera retires – MLB News
Veteran Major League infielder Orlando Cabrera has officially taken retirement on Wednesday leaving his 14-year baseball legacy for rather young Colombians.
A Colombian native, who played for nine different MLB franchises, achieving .272 hitting average along with 123 home-runs, 854 RBIs and .317 OBP, certainly played at his highest.
Last season, playing total 130 games split between 91 games with Cleveland Indians and 39 games with San Francisco Giants, Cabrera finished at hitting .238, five homers, 51 RBIs and .267 OBP.
Cabrera was considered one of the best talents outside the US, who made their way through in the biggest baseball league in the world with great competitiveness while ending it on a high note.
His game has never disappointed wherever he played. Last year, one of his last teams, the Giants’ manager, Bruce Bochy once said for Cabrera as, “He is a proven winner. With Miguel, one of our shortstops going down, we felt like we needed an experienced shortstop infielder who could go out there every day and win games for us. He was available. It worked out well for us.”
The 36-year old is leaving with a World Series Championship along with Gold Glove award and privileged of playing in top MLB teams including Montreal Expos, Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles of Anaheim, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, Minnesota Twins, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and San Francisco Giants.
During an interview, Cabrera called 2004 his golden and most memorable year when he won the precious World Series Championship with the Red Sox.
Cabrera stated, “It really put my career on the map. To go all the way and win in the way we won, everybody on our team was put on the map for future. A lot of guys like to put up big numbers and get voted into the Game. Some guys work for the postseason.”
To Cabrera’ credit, experts believe  that he was rather a stoke-of-luck for MLB franchises in recent years as he became the first Major League professional to reach the postseason with four consecutive years with four different teams from 2007-10.
