Long train ride?!?

this weekend im going on a long train ride to chicago by myself and im 15. i dont want to fall asleep because there can be sketchy people on trains sometimes and i will have all my bags with me....so does anyone have any ideas of what i can do on the train besides buying tons of magazines?

If you are taking one of Amtrak's long distance trains I wouldn't worry about sketchy people on the train, these types of folks are almost always found on commuter/transit/subway trains, not long distance passenger trains.  Actually, you should have a great trip as far as the ride itself is concerned (travel by train is usually very enjoyable) just don't be surprised if your train is late, this is very common.  In any event, I can't say as far as what you can do for entertainment but have a great trip, it should be a memorable experience! :o)

You likely will stow your baggage in the compartment above your seat or have it checked. There is lots to do on the train. Go into the lounge area and play board games, cards, socialize with other passengers. There are also movies to watch and some trains will have speakers talking about the area you are traveling through.

There are not nearly as disreputable people on trains than on buses.

Try and get a window seat and hopefully it wont be such a crowded car and you can have th seat to yourself.

If you are traveling in daytime watchintgthe scenery go by is a nice way to pass time. You see things you wont see from a highway.

Bring some music along, a good book if you like ot read. Place your carry on bag or extra jacket on the seat next to you to discourage people from sitting down next to you unless the car is full and there is no choice.

I would not feel nervous about catching a few ZZZs, as long as you dont change into your jammies and fuzzy wabbit slippers.

Relax, you will enjoy the trip, and remember, you are free to get up and wander around a bit if you dont feel like sitting, or if the person next to you is disagreeable.

Try that on a plane or in a car.

If you have that much baggage they probably are not going to allow you to keep it all by your seat anyways.

The Midwest Trains are the absolute most scenic in the Usa. If Your traveling trains like The California Zephyr, The Southwest chief, of the Capitol Limited, Theres a Sightseers Lounge witch is very cool! It's a superliner car with big dome windows. I was never bored on a train!!

Don't worry about it. The real scum, the ones who would as soon slit your throat as look at you, are FLYING.. first class.
