  1. Long is for racing, sharper cuts and style.

Shorter is for tricks, carving slow.

  2. a few inches

  3. Long skis usually are for wider radius turns, short skis for short radius

  4. short. if your into tricks.

  5. The shorter ski"s  are for more terrain skiing like on trails. The longer ski's are for downhill skiing

    Good Luck

  6. It's all about weight distribution.  What length downhill ski you should chose should be determined by your height, weight, skill level, and what type of snow you'll be skiing on.

If you're more of a beginner, longer skis will be better, they'll help you stay more in control.  Shorter skis will 'perform' better if you're ready for more challenging hills and even shorter trick skis will be better for rails and that sort of thing.

Cross country skis will usually be long in order to disperse weight across more snow.

  7. depends on the side-cut, weight and flexibility of the ski.

In general, the shorter the ski, the tighter the turning radius.  Also, the longer the ski, the more edge stability, and therefore speed in some cases.

  8. Length is determined by the skier's physical qualities (mostly height and weight), conditions (powder/hardpack), skill level (beginner/intermediate/expert), intended usage (tricks/free ski/racing), and personal preference, among other things. Different lengths are good for different things, but for beginning skiers height and weight are the most important. Heavier, taller skiers will start with longer skis, and shorter, lighter skiers will start with shorter ones. For more specifics, ask your local ski seller.

  9. short skiis are easier
