West Brom striker Shane Long has urged his teammates to find a ruthless streak and become a force to be reckoned with in the coming games.
The club suffered its first home defeat of the season against reigning English champions Manchester City at the Hawthorns. The champions had gone down to 10 men in the first half when midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/James-Milner-c17706 was sent off for a last man tackle on Shane Long.
The player was sent off after the referee adjudged the tackle to have denied a clear goal scoring opportunity. Milner was given his marching orders, and West Brom looked in prime position to emerge as victors.
The Baggies had taken the lead when Long slotted home the opening goal of the night in the second half. The Irishman finished off neatly and gave the home side the lead, and it looked as if the champions might struggle in the remaining minutes.
Edin Dzeko was brought on by City in the second half, and turned out to be an inspired substitution as he scored a brace and gave 10-man city the lead, and ultimately the three points.
Long was disappointed at losing the game, especially since City were a man down and had gone a goal down. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987 international felt that his side missed out on a great win as they were left with nothing.
The Irishman insists that West Brom need to be more ruthless and aggressive if they are to get maximum results from their games. Speaking to the club’s official website, he said:
“The crowd were getting behind us and we really felt like we could win the game. That is the confidence we have in the squad at the moment. But at the same time, we have probably got to learn from these situations.”
The striker finds comfort in the fact that they dropped points against the English champions, and takes that as a plus point from the defeat. He added:
“But at least we lost in the right way, trying to win the game and taking the game to them. There aren’t many teams that will take points off Manchester City this season.”
