Question:

Long week-end in Prague

Me and my mates are going to Prague for a long week-end in September.

Since we can buy 30p a pint lager, we know what to do in the nights.

But 2 questions:

1) Where are the best places to go in the nights? We want to avoid any British pubs, because if we can, we want a Czech experience.

2) What must we do in Prague during the day-time?

  1. 1.) Stay off Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske Namesti) for the nighttime. There are good places to eat off the square, however. Much of Prague is a giant tourist trap, so don't get sucked into paying more at one of the restaurants off the main drag. I would recommend going to a Czech pub, where you can get all the Pilsner Urquell and Starobrno, plus dozens of other Czech and German beers served to you in a cozy environment. I would personally recommend this place: http://www.pragueexperience.com/places.a...

I was there last March and they were very friendly. They speak English there, have reasonable prices, and take credit cards. Attempt to speak Czech with them and they will be very welcoming and even more forthcoming with their English. (Day-kwee is thank you, pro-seem is please).

2.) You absolutely must do the Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) and Prague Castle (Hrad). Also, see the Astrological Clock in the Old Town Square (very touristy--by no means would I suggest you eat at one of the surrounding restaurants. They are all very expensive and the food is not so good. Do as the locals do and eat at one of the street vendors in the square if you go there).  Remember to keep all bags close to you and zipped shut at all times. Prague is notorious for its pickpockets, especially on their Metro system (including the trams and buses to and from the airport). There's also the Prague State Opera, which is pretty good. You might be able to catch a cheap matinee at the opera house where Mozart had a few of his operas run (it's by Old Town Square). Then there's also the Muzeum at the top of Vaclavske Namesti; I haven't been there but I've heard good things about it.

There's also the Black Light Theaters, which are strange and amusing. They are definitely something you will remember. I've seen Laterna Magika and it is...strange, but memorable and enjoyable.
