Question:

Longbow archery. Bending longbow?

I brought a longbow recently, but both limbs curve to the right, so it does not string properly.I have put it in a wood vice and tied string around each limb so the bow is dead staright. If I leave if for three or four days, will the Bow have become straight?

If you leave string on a bow for too long, the bow can be left bent backwards. Is this not the same for bending the limbs in place.

Thanks

  1. It'll take around 3-4 months, but depending on how badly twisted the limbs are, it might be time for a new bow.  A friend of mine had the same issue with a  recurve.  It was more twisted than bent though.  So he left the bow in a vice for about 4 months, then it was back to shooting shape.
