In the daytime my almost 4wk old eats every 1-2 hrs and at night

she often sleeps like a rock, (knock on wood) and has to be woken up

to feed she eats every 4-5 hrs at night....Is this average?

She has tons of poo and pee diapers...so, I know it is enough, I

guess I feel a little guilty about waiting so long to feed her at night

  1. I wouldn't even wake her up at night.  My daughter is 4 weeks and she usually goes up to 4 1/2 hours at night, and breastfeeds every 3 during the day. I wish mine were only taking 10 minutes to eat, she's been taking 40 minutes atleast since birth.

  2. this is fine. I think that this is about the time my now 4 months old started sleeping longer. (Thank God)

She'll be fine and will wake when she's hungry.

  3. Don't worry, your little one is fine. The night I brought home my son he slept from 1am to 7:30. I woke up and almost had a heart attack. It didn't last and he was up every 3-4 hours till he was 2 months. Since then he's been sleeping through the night.

  4. you got a good one. no need for guilt. my son is the same way. as long as her diapers are wet and shes pooping normal :

    Dont Worry, Sleep happy!

  5. Sounds like you are doing everything right--You could even try not to wake her in the middle of the night and see if she goes longer and then you can get more rest too---since she is eating plenty during the day she will last long like that at night, just try to have your baby be your alarm clock at night feedings--trust me she will wake when she is hungry. good luck

  6. You are just blessed.  Don't worry, the diapers are your best indicator and you'll have a checkup in a couple of weeks, so you'll see if the weight is good.  Babies are all different and have different sleep and eat schedules.  Yours sounds within a normal range.

  7. Lucky duck.

I had to wait until my little one was 13 months old before I got more than 3 hours in a row!  Yes, as long as she has enough wets and dirties, then she's getting enough.  Check out this website for TONS of good advice and info on bf'ing:
