Longest T20 series between Pakistan and Australia is back on the cards - Cricket News Update
The Pakistan-Australia series in UAE has finally got the nod that it had been waiting for, as a six-match T20 series between the two countries, has been approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The series was scheduled to be held in UAE, but the decision on the match format was in a stalemate as there was some disagreement over the number of One Day Internationals (ODIs) being played for the series.
The disagreement was mainly due to the extreme hot weather in the Emirate state in the month of August as Cricket Australia (CA) was reluctant to play the series under such conditions.
Pakistan had initially suggested a longer T20 series, which was rejected by the ICC before it was cut short to a three-T20 and three-ODI series. However, the two teams still expressed serious reservations over the ODIs.

According to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 rules, in a bilateral T20 series, the number of matches cannot exceed three. However, in exceptional circumstances, a special dispensation can be given to countries which want a longer series.
Pakistan has to play its home series on neutral venues and UAE, as the most likely venue, prompted Pakistan to propose a six-match T20 series which was finally given a go ahead after the ICC’s Chief Executive Committee (CEC) meeting
in Kuala Lumpur.
"This request required a special dispensation from the CEC and then the ICC Board as the current regulation permits only three T20I in a series. Because of the extreme daytime heat in the UAE at that time of the year, the CEC raised
no objections to the principle of a six-match T20I series,” the statement added.

However, he said that CA awaited further details of the series from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
If taken place, it will be the longest T20 series in history, and could prove to be an excellent opportunity for both teams to adequately prepare, for the ICC World T20 in September.
