Longest explaination for the Greenhouse effect?

The greenhouse effect refers to the ability of some atmospheric gases (including H2O, CO2, and methane [CH4]) to capture and retain heat.  It keeps the planet warm, and is suspected of heating it up even more due to man-caused global warming.
