Longest home-runs in Major League Baseball this season
Home-runs have always been the most entertaining aspect in baseball. There are players who have perfected this art and are now fan favourites whenever they step up to the plate. Names such as Alex Rodriguez and Babe Ruth instantly remind us of the uncountable
home-runs that they have amassed.
Alex Rodriguez was once a constant threat to the pitchers but knee problems in recent times have halted his home-run hitting abilities. Jose Bautista has emerged to the top since last year when he shook the world with more than 50 home-runs in a single season.
He is in line to replicate the feat this season with 31 already registered against his name.
Where there are players who hit home-runs consistently, there are others who believe in hammering the ball the farthest distance. Following is a brief outlook of the players who have recorded the longest home-runs in the 2011 season.
Prince Fielder recorded the longest home-run in MLB this season when he smashed Brett Myers for a 486 feet homer. The National League home-run derby captain is a renowned hitter and has proved his hitting abilities time and again. This season, Fielder has
amassed 58 runs, 23 of which have come as home-runs. His slugging percentage of .542 is phenomenal and he is expected to finish the season with around 35 home-runs which is not less by any means.
Fielder has hit 215 home-runs in just six years at MLB. Time is on his side and he can make it to the all-time list if he continues with his aggressive intent and remains fit.
Justin Upton has recorded two massive hits this season. His 478 feet hit to Chris Carpenter is the second longest hit this season and his 464 feet homer to Madison Bumgarner is the fifth longest hit in the current season thus far.
Although not as heavy as Fielder, Upton has strong arms and a sharp mind. He is just four years old in the Majors and has already registered 80 home-runs, 20 of which have come this season. Upton is slugging at .548 this season which is way better than his
career slugging percentage of .487.
The last seven days have been sensational for Justin where he has smashed four home-runs in 22 at-bats at a slugging percentage of .591. He is still young on the circuit and has all the ingredients which can ensure him success in the future.
Ryan Howard’s 470 feet homer to Brandon Beachy is the third longest hit in MLB this season. The left-handed batter who plays at first base for Philadelphia Phillies has been among the home-runs throughout his illustrious career. In 978 games, Howard has
smashed 273 homers and has a mind-boggling slugging percentage of .560. Maintaining such a high career slugging percentage is extraordinary in itself.
In this season alone, Howard has bagged 20 home-runs but his slugging percentage has experienced a dip. However, he has strong arms and can improve his hitting percentage with just a few good hits.
Mike Stanton’s hit which distanced 465 feet is the fourth longest hit in the current season and came against Mike Pelfrey. Stanton plays for Florida Marlins and has accumulated 24 home-runs in 99 games this season. He has played 199 career-games and has
scored 103 career-runs. 46 of these runs have come as home-runs and Stanton has made his aggressive intent clear very early in his career.
