The interim coach of Espanyol, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-c30652 Longhi, has filled the newly appointed coach, Javier Aguirre, about the current situation of the club.
Espanyol have had a poor start to the season. Since the beginning of this campaign the club has been struggling and are still rooted at the bottom of the table.
Their lack of success so far has led to the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mauricio-c24899 Pochettino. He was fired this week after he failed to turn around the club’s dismal start to the season.
Now the club has appointed, the Mexican coach, Javier Aguirre. However, he was not appointed in time to oversee Espanyol’s encounter with Sevilla in the Copa del Rey.
Due to that reason, Team B coach, Longhi, was overseeing the clash with the Andalusians last night.
The Catalan-based club lost the match by 3-0 and could not advance to the second-round.
However, their temporary boss believes that players should not be put under more pressure. He added that Espanyol needs affection since the situation at the club is very delicate.
“This team needs love, because the situation is delicate,” commented Longhi after the midweek defeat.
Longhi has reflected on the defeat to Sevilla and said that it was the sending off and the penalty against their team that changed the direction of the game. And because of that there was no way they could come back to the game.
“Against Sevilla, the penalty and red card [in the first half] has conditioned the game, and everything from there has been very difficult.”
The 60-year-old interim coach is urging everyone at the club to keep supporting the team and put their trust in them. He knows that a lot of work is waiting for the incoming boss but is sure that it will lead to a good direction.
“We must support the team, trust them and keep working. There is a great pressure [for Aguirre], but now begins a new cycle with an entirely new workforce.”
Espanyol have lost their last three matches in the Primera Division and are currently relinquishing at the bottom of the table. However, a win in their next game could be enough to take them out of the drop zone.
