Longitude and latitude!!?? HELLPP!!?

How do u measure longitude and latitude on a map with the minutes? I have this school map that gives the like degrees on the outerside but doesn't give any minutes? So how would you measure the minutes? And in general how do u find long/lat on a map? Thanxx! Please help if you can !

Each degree is equal to 60 minute and each minute is equal to 60 second.  Therefore if only degrees are shown you need a scale with 60 marks on it to divide the degrees into 60 parts.  On a sheet of paper place the length of one degree (from the map) on one edge and lay out 60 marks (millimeters or eighths from a ruler) on the perpendicular edge.  Use the two edges to form a rectangle then draw a diagonal between corners of the rectangle.  Forty five minutes (45 marks on one edge) will give a (vertical) point on the diagonal that will correspond with the (horizontal) midpoint on the degree edge.  Use the diagram to scale any desired distance in minutes to corresponding parts of a degree and use a pair of dividers to transfer the 'distance' to the map.
