  1. It won't hurt them because he isn't the best player on the team. Carlos Pena is a great hitter

  2. Yes...both Longo and Crawford. But luckily, Rocco Baldelli is back and ready to produce. If he stays healthy, he could easily help the Rays to a title. If he doesn't, Pena will just have to step his game up. Simple as that. Pena is capable of great things and will have to improve to help the Rays.

  3. For the first time all year, I think this is the first snag the Rays have had. They will have to carry on without arguably their best player. Pitching still wins games, and they have proven their starting rotation isn't going to flounder. He's on the 15 day DL...but we all know what can happen during 15 days of a baseball season. Just ask the 2007 Mets.

  4. the rays had the division lead before longoria got called up, so they should be able to hold it without him. Yes, it will be difficult with his production gone from the lineup, but they should be ok.

  5. I was really hoping the Rays would be able to hold on, but now w/o Longoria I'm not sure?!  A fractured wrist and only on the 15 day DL, something is wrong their.  I think the Rays are hopeful!  Their pitching has been great, but the loss of run production may be too much to overcome.  I am still rooting for them as I'm tired of watching the Yanks and the BoSox!

  6. THEY still make the playoffs with the division but only if its 15 dl not any longer GO RED SOX!

  7. Pick any one of the other 24 players.Starter or reliever, infielder or outfielder, it doesn't matter. You could lose any one of those guys, maybe two, and it wouldn't be as frightening as Monday's news that Evan Longoria has a fractured wrist and a reserved seat on the disabled list.He is the closest thing the Rays have to an MVP candidate, and now he will miss the next 10 games and perhaps half a dozen more. Seriously, this is about as bad as it can get for Tampa Bay. There is not another player in the clubhouse who is quite so irreplaceable as Longoria. You see, the problem with losing Longoria is not just that he is their best hitter and a Gold Glove-caliber infielder. It's that the Rays do not have anyone close waiting in the wings. But the good news is Longoria should be back in time for September when the Rays play 13 of 16 games against the Red Sox and Yankees to open the month.

So, if you are an optimist, the pennant is still Tampa Bay's to win.

  8. the injury to longoria will not be a problem for the rays because they are still going to make the playoffs.  the red sox might take over first place in the east for a while but the yankees are not going to make another serious push for a playoff spot.

  9. The Rays are taking a big hit with both Crawford and Longoria on the DL.  It would have been difficult for the Rays to win with all their players and with their two best players out it will be a near impossible task to hold on to the lead.  There only hope is if their pitching can step it up a notch and if both the Red Sox and Yankees continue to struggle a bit.

  10. If he's only out for 15 days, I think they still have a chance. If his wrist doesn't heal enough and he has a prolonged DL stint, I think they can pretty much kiss their season goodbye.

  11. Yes the Rays can still win the division, but watch out! Boston is right behind them!
