Look back at Phil Mickelson’s 2012
For Phil Mickelson, it has been a phenomenal year. Although he could not win a major, he has been playing some terrific golf throughout the year.
Lefty started off his season at Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation, but failed to make an impression, as he finished way below at T49.
He then went on to miss the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open. It seemed that it would be a problematic year for Mickelson but he got his act together from there on.
They say experience counts and that is what exactly rescued Lefty from blemishes.
Phil bounced back in February, when he won AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Wining is not new to Phil but the way he played the final round was something really amazing.
Carding a 64 in the final round really takes an effort. This round, by many, is considered as the best round of the year so far.
Following his success at AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, Lefty secured a second place finish at Northern Trust Open.
From there on, it was a steady performance from the current world number thirteen.
There has been one concern for Phil throughout this season. After some tournaments, he seemed to become a little tired, which affected his performances badly.
After his seventh place finish at the Bryan Nelson, he really look fatigued and out of sorts. It seems that age is finally taking a toll on Mickelson.
Phil is in his early 40s and, considering the level on which he has been playing golf, this has been a one big achievement.
The 42-year-old withdrew from the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance and then went on to miss the cut at the Greenbrier Classic.
FedEx Cup was one big morale booster for Phil. He secured a T4 finish at the Deutsche Bank Open, which was followed by T2 finish at the BMW Championship.
It seemed that Mickelson could be the dark horse at Tour Championship but all he could manage was a T15 finish.
However, his major disappointment of the season came at the Ryder Cup, where Americans led by 10-6 going in to the final but squandered their lead in the singles.
World Golf Championships-HSBC Champions was one tournament where he loves to play. Once again, he did not disappoint, as he secured a second-place finish.
Generally, it has been a successful season for Mickelson. The question mark remains only on his fitness level. There is absolutely no doubt that Lefty still has all the tricks of the trade.
