a solution of an organic halide in benzene, C6H6, has a mole fraction of halide of 0.0821. express its concentration in terms of molality.

  1. ok so molality= moles of solute/kgs of solvent

    if the mole fraction of the organic halide is .0821 that means the mole fraction of the solvent (benzene) is .9179

    lets just use 1 as the total number of moles

    that means that there is

    .9179 moles of solvent

    convert moles to mass using the molecular weight of benzene which is

    78 grams /mole

    so

    .9179 x 78 grams per mole

    71.7 grams

    so you get

    .0821/71.7grams

    but you got to convert that into kgs

    so

    .0821/.0717 kgs
