  1. she can apply for a student visa, but before she can apply for the visa she must be accepted by a school.(if she can find one offering the course she wants)......she will have to pay all tuition fees up front and prove she can afford to support herself. She can only apply for a work visa to work part time while studying once her course has started

  2. She should have little trouble getting a Student visa. She needs to be accepted by the school or university before she applies and will need to pay in full for her tuition. She will be able to work for up to 20 hours during the semester and for unlimited hours during official semester breaks. The Permission to Work is now automatic (since 26th April, 2008) and no longer requires a separate application.

If you wish to come with her as her spouse, you will need to be able to prove your relationship and the required proofs can be difficult to come by if you are not legally married. The definition of 'spouse' is:

"The person you are married to, or in a de facto (common law) relationship with. You are in a de facto relationship if you have been living with a person of the opposite s*x for at least 12 months and you have a genuine and exclusive relationship with them."  The 'genuine and exclusive' bit is the hard part to prove.

If you do qualify and can get a visa, you will be able to work for 20 hours per week all year around (no extra during semester breaks). If you also wish to study for more than 3 months, you will need to apply for a separate Student visa for yourself.

    See http://www.immi.gov.au/students/index.ht... for more info.

  3. www.uac.edu.au has a list of courses in NSW, and links to lists in the other states.
