I'm looking for a vinyl siding that comes in a bright yellow, does anyone know where I can find that? I am also interested in an exterior paint in bright yellow that can be painted over vinyl siding if the color of siding I want is not available

  1. Because of the fade factor, it may be hard to find vinyl in that color, but you can check the following web page on vinyl siding:

Also, Hardie board (or James Hardie siding) is a super long lasting, tough siding material.  A house in my area has it in a beautiful shade of yellow, and it looks great!

Check out more about it here:

For other options, see the main page on siding in the resource box.

    Hope this helps!

  2. The whole idea of vinyl siding is lack of maintenance and ease of installation. Painting would be a big mistake. Try Sears- they make a very good brand that is durable with many color options. Paint doesn't like to stick to vinyl for long-expansion/contraction, surface too smooth, etc.

  3. Yellows are very difficult to stabilize against UV degradation in vinyl.  Because of this, bright yellows are very rare, I don't know of any company that makes a bright yellow and I have samples from a dozen different companies.  I am not saying you won't find it, but plan to look for a while, plan to pay a premium, and check the fade warranty well.

Painting vinyl is not a good idea.  It is possible to get paint to stick, but vinyl siding is designed to expand and contract.  You will end up with very noticeable lines where the siding pieces overlap.

Why not use fiber cement?  Fiber cement siding comes in a variety of widths, and if you find the right retailer you can get it prepainted in literally any color you can come up with.  If it is properly installed and painted, it will easily last 20 years between paint -- just as long or longer than a colored vinyl will hold up and still look good.  It is more expensive than vinyl, but I think it looks much better than vinyl (I am a traditionalist) and you can get the color you want without causing yourself problems.
