Looking To Buy A Ferret, Help Please?

Hey guys, I’m looking into buying a Ferret but I really don’t know too much about them and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. :)

The first thing I want to know is, I’m looking for a breed that is seriously beautiful and lovely and aren’t vicious. Like, something dog-like or whatever, lols.

The second question, could you tell me a little about them? Just like what they eat, where they have to sleep ect ect.

But the first question is most important, so give me just a couple lines about the best breed you’d recommend. THANKSS!

  1. im not much of an expert on ferrets but i know that they run around alot, and if they get out of the house theyre not coming back.

so you should definitely have a small room or a large cage for your ferret(s)

  2. ur comparing a ferrit to a dog-like personality... why not just buy a dog? think about it... u want a FERRIT that has DOG-LIKE personalities... u allready know where dogs sleep and what they eat. (i hope) lol.and there much more lovable and cute! (in my eyes they are anyways... lol) and theres 75% less chance a dog will viciosly attack ur face! lol. and i think all dog breeds are naturly beautiful! (in there own way) just think it though alittle. ferrits cant be held close or be cuddled. and u have to clean after it every single day. dogs: u just take them out for a walk. and u have a VERY good chance they will attack u. think about it plzzzzzzzzzzzz. thnx

  3. You obviously have a *lot* to learn about ferrets. I am very glad you are asking some questions before getting one. :-) First of all, there are no different 'breeds' of ferrets. There are different coat colors, but they are all the same breed. Secondly, ferrets are more work than a cat, dog, hamster, or many other type of pet. They are almost never 100% with litter training, can get into more trouble than a two year old, and only live 6 - 9 years on average. They are also the best pet in the world, in my opinion. I highly recommend that you read the Ferret FAQ: http://www.ferretcentral.org/faq/ and join the Ferret Mailing List (instructions are in the Ferret FAQ) before getting a ferret. Also, check around for a local ferret rescue or shelter - perhaps even do a little volunteer work there first. But at least read the Ferret FAQ.
