  1. "Other treats and supplements that can be added to the diet include fresh fruit and vegetables (in limited amounts at first to avoid diarrhea) such as carrots, broccoli, apples and berries.  Avoid rhubarb, raw kidney beans or onions, and potato leaves.  Other supplements are treats are raisins, cheese (small amounts), occasional dog biscuits, breakfast cereal, occasional cooked egg and occasional mealworm."

Maybe I'd personally pass on the "mealworm." :D  I'd also suggest frozen peas, grapes, spinach or lettuce, banana, etc.  Most of what you eat can be given to a gerbil, just watch out for the stuff below.

    Foods to Avoid:

    Kidney Beans (raw)

Clover - high in prussic acid (cyanide)

    Potato (raw)

    Rhubarb

    Tomato leaves

    Black nightshade

    Buttercups

    Clematis

    Daffodil

    Deadly nightshade

    Hemlock

    Hydrangea

    Ivy

    Laburnum

    Laurel

    Oleander

    Poinsettia

    Rhododendron

    Yew

    Yucca

Dairy products in large amounts (like most mammals—including most humans—gerbils have a hard time digesting lactose)

    Chocolate*

    Rabbit Mix (containing antibiotic ingredients)

    Sweets

    Toffee

Avocado - Toxic to their hearts

    Garlic

Coltsfoot - can cause cancer and is hepatoxic (toxic to the kidneys of rodents)

Dandelion - can cause cancer and is a diuretic

    Yarrow - can cause cancer

    Hope that helps!
