Looking different (punk clothing)?

Question

so i hate looking like everyone else, and for the last 2 or so years, everyone at my school has been preppy. so i just bought lots of punkish stuff like skinny jeans and converse, with regular t-shirts. but then when i went to freshman orientation, i noticed everyone was wearing punk clothing. so my question is, how can i make myself look different, despite having the same punkish style as everyone else?

Drop the punk act for one.

And next time you go shopping look at things you find kinda weird at first but you like them after putting it on.

My BFF is punk all the way!  She has different colored highlights in her hair, like pink, purple, and blue.  She wears different styles, like black tanks, studded belts, black boots, and lots of piercing, like on her ears, nose, lips, and eyebrows,  she also has some cute, and kind of girlie tattoos, but nothing to over dramatic.  I'd say you should do something like that.  But wear what YOU want to wear.  Don't let anyone tell you what to wear.  Hope this helps.

wear tees with suspenders from hot topic.

get your eyebrow pierced.

get a scene haircut. tease it.

wear belts from journeys all the time.

buy vans and etnies too. not only converse.

make yourself eclectic.

wear preppy clothes other days to throw people off.

make sure they see the difference.

be a totally random and weird person.

tuck in your band tees from hot topic.

buy some destroyed flare jeans and wear them all the time.

wear a bunch of black eyeshadow and eyeliner.

the next day put on gold, silver, and pink eyeshadow.

and wear that with a ton of blush all over your face.

make sure you have every style mixed together.

buy a few knits and sweaters.

go to limited too and buy little girl clothes.

like leggings with dresses.

get lots of reversable hoodies.

then buy some designer clothes.

chanel, gucci, marc jacobs.

then buy some south pole stuff the next day.

be all girly and wear skirts.

but not denim. only tweed.

and buy a fancy ball gown and wear it to class.

then wear it to the prom.

buy some cheap stuff from wal mart.

wear some green tights from wet seal.

wear them with the cheap wal mart skirt.

and old granny oversized tees.

find a alternative celebrity like audrey kitching or hannabeth that you really like, and use them for inspiration!

find your own unique trend that you do, whether its hair extensions, hats, try oversized t-shirts from the mens section of goodwill with skinny jeans, and a vest or belt to make it more fitted, or try really cute scarfs!

Well its ok to work with what you have. I mean, seeing that you bought a new wardrobe, it wouldn't make sense to buy a different kind of style of clothing. Here's what I think you should do...mix up your punkish style with your preppy style. You could wear a regular shirt with a cute loose tie and and a cute preppy skirt. Or a button up plaid shirt with skinny jeans...all these things would make you look fabulous but even set you apart from the rest. And dont forget to accessorize.(hoops, studs, long chains, etc.) Thats key. And if you catch anyone with your new look, just know that you've become a trend-setter.

Well, I know you're going to hate this answer... but dress however you want. You shouldn't dress differently than you want just because others are doing the same.

But on to the answer you DO want to hear..

Do something bold. Get a new hair cut, put in colored extensions (or even take a step up and ACTUALLY dye your hair), and wear bright stuff. Wear black, i LOVE black. You could also try using bright colored eyeshadow, and eyeliner. Do stuff that makes you stand out. And, don't' be afraid to try styles out that others may consider weird, because I promise you in a few months once you've grown out of it, everyone else will be wearing it. Try wearing flowy dresses in black with a different colored vest. Wear some feminine stuff, and add on some other stuff like converse, a vest, a chunky belt, or something else to take it down a notch. Or, buy something like a comfortable like a plain v neck shirt, and accessorize. I know that with my experience in high school, and seeing the new freshmen come in... it's always interesting to see their styles. And when they take a step up, they truely stand out. So you should try that. :) Hope I helped.

You can look different by inventing your own look. Don't buy into manufactured rebellion, just do your own thing, be yourself, and wear whatever appeals to you. That's being a true individual.
