Looking for 18V 10A Transformer?

I'm designing a power supply for part of a project to use to power a battery charging circuit. Does anyone know where I can find a transformer which takes 120V AC input and outputs 18V with a current rating of about 7-10A?

  1. ... or a bit cheaper than "Hammond"...

  2. Hammond Manufacturing 18V 10A transformer from Allied Electronics

I think you would be lucky to get 1 amp out of the "bit cheaper" doorbell transformer. It doesn't look like a 180VA transfromer to me.

  3. You should be able to find one. But the voltage is non-standard, so you may have to use a 12 v transformer is series with a 6 volt one, or 3 6 volt transformers in series.

  4. 18v +/-, CT, or Dual Secondary?

If just a standard +/- Radio Shack might have one. Otherwise try Mouser.com

Dont run 3 - 6v transformers together. they will probably blow hot copper all over the place.

The 20V 10A transformer will probably do just fine in your application.  The 18V 16.6A transformer will also do.

It's too bad they don't sell much in between.
