  2. I would definitely do "Arthur Bryant's" (the original on Brooklyn, not the Casino one) for sandwiches.

"Gates BBQ" is also amazing, for their sandwiches, and incredible baked beans.

"Smokehouse BBQ" off of N. Oak Trafficway is amazing.

"Fiorella's Jack Stack BBQ" has the best ribs in Kansas City, and its located in a part of town known as Martin City, but its technically K.C.MO.

  3. I'm a BBQ lover, and I'm a purist. You've had some excellent answers to your questions, but there are a couple of others I'd suggest. Hayward's in Overland Park is excellent; the sauce is great, and the quality of the meat is probably better than Bryant's. It is at roughly College Blvd. and Antioch in Overland Park, Ks(the southern part of the city). Try the combo plate the burnt ends are fantastic. I took a friend their from out of town recently, and she loved the ribs.

Just north of Hayward's is KC Masterpiece at I-435 and Metcalfe. The quality of the meat is excellent, but the sauce is a bit too sweet for my taste.

Gate's, and Fiorello's have been mentioned, and they are very good as well. There are a couple of good places in Martin City RC's and Smoke Stack that are probably worth a try. Martin City also has Jess and Jim's a steak house with a 25 ounce strip and 30 ounce porterhouse.

If you can make it to town in Oct. the American Royal BBQ contest is a blast. After the judging on the second day, most of the contestants will let you sample.

    Good luck and happy eating.

    IMHO, Bryant's is the best.

  4. There are many places in KC but, you might also check the tourism board and find out about the Great American Bar B Que contest.  It is held every year.  This year it is Memorial Day Weekend at the Woodland's Race Track.  KC has great Bar B Que and steaks as well.  Beef Country.
